Ever wondered what it was like to be a prisoner in Victorian times? well bring the whole family here to this building full of sad memories and secrets to find out. Walk along the dimly lit corridors and look into the sparse cells and places of punishment. Live performances based on the history of the Gaol are held during July - September.

Opening Times

The Gaol (and sister Courthouse museum) will be open for the 2020 season from 1 March 2020. The date on which it will close over winter has not yet been determined but normally the season ends in the first week of November. During the season the Gaol and Courthouse will be open seven days per week between the hours of 10:00 and 17:00 although it may close earlier in the day during the autumn months due to lack of lighting within both museums.
