For a fun day out exploring get the ferry across to Piel Island to explore the ruined castle. The castle guards the mouth of the harbour of Barrow-in-Furness and also the passage to Furness Abbey's holding and the Isle of Man. You can explore the massive keep, inner and outer baileys and the towered curtain walls that are still standing.
