If there are cycle enthusiasts in your family then explore this 7 mile disused railway path which stretches from Canterbury to the harbour in Whitstable. Take a picnic to enjoy on the way and enjoy the lovely flora and fauna of the area keeping a special eye out for the rare heath fritillary butterfly. There is also the option to return to Canterbury on the train if the kids have exhausted themselves!
