Arrive early to park! Do the butterfly house early as unbearably hot in the afternoon when it's been sunny!

Preston farm is a brilliant place to go with your kids, it has got a big park which is free and the museum which is really cheap to enter and you can reuse your ticket all year round for free. They also have butterfly world which is more expensive, never been in it yet as have been told that's not worth the money. You also have the river to go walk along and plenty of places to have a nice picnic. I went when I was a kid when they had the animals and birds, I wish they still had them, but I still love going now with my kids now.
