This Medieval priory, house and gardens date back to 1790 and are presented as they were back in the time of Sir Henry Dryden, a Victorian antiquary. Tips

We love visiting Canons Ashby! When you arrive at the car park, there is a short walk up to the main buildings. Normally there is a little meet and greet caravan and the staff always make an effort to talk to us and our little boy. If you walk up there are chickens to say hello to.

Most of the bits to look at are concentrated in on part, the house, 2nd hand book shop, gardens, toilets with baby change facilities, NT shop and the cafe.

The cafe is lovely but quite hard to get into with a pushchair. It's sells sandwiches, cakes and a few hot meals, but also does a lunch box meal for children.

Normally we spend time running round the garden, but in the shop you can pick up quiz/ trails for outdoors and indoors for the little people, and when you return little ones get a sticker.

You have formal gardens, vegetable garden and our favourite the yew tree garden for playing hide and seek. Normally there is croquet out to play with too. There are few sheltered spots with benches if you need to feed baby.

The house is lovely, we go at Christmas as the house is decorated and normally Father Christmas is there. But they hold lots of different events through the year.

We like the natural playground they have put in, with a rope swing, stepping blocks and a stick den - great for little minds!
