About This AttractionSuggest an Edit

Maiden Castle is the largest and most complex Iron Age hill fort in Britain. The castle was first laid out in 600BC and covers 47 acres with a complicated defensive system around the entrances, and once protected several hundred residents and grain from marauding bands. The first single-rampart fort dates from around 700BC and by 100BC the earthworks covered the whole plateau. There are many steep banks and deep ditches, so whilst visitors should exercise caution, they will also enjoy a fabulous and thrilling day out.
