About This AttractionSuggest an Edit
Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum tells the story of the six Tolpuddle farmers who were arrested in February 1834 after forming a trade union. They were sentenced to transportation to Australia, causing uproar throughout their home country of England. Demonstrations were held and the protest campaign proved successful and they returned home in triumph. The museum features displays and interactive exhibits about the Martyrs and their impact on trade unionism. Every summer on the weekend of the third Sunday in July, the museum holds the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival. The weekend combines celebration with tradition offering traditional and contemporary music as well as many other attractions. Visitors can discover for themselves how the Tolpuddle Martyrs changed the face of social history and, through their beliefs and actions, made such an impact on society.
