These beautiful gardens and grounds are a tranquil oasis not far from the city centre, there is a fee to enter the dramatic glass houses, which are full of tropical plants that all clearly labelled and have audio aids. There are various family events throughout the year so make sure you check their website for the latest.

Directions

By Car Drive into Edinburgh and get onto the A9085 heading West turn down Arboretum Road which will be on your right. At the roundabout go straight ahead and the gardens will be on your left. By Bus Catch buses 8.23 or 27

Tips

Actually for favourite place I have visited with the family in Edinburgh yet, if only the sun shone every day like it did when we were here.

I understand that a botanical garden is not designed to be a play ground, but adding one would definitely increase the enjoyment of this visit or a maze of some type a modern one with puzzles maybe based on the flora in the park or an electronic tagging speed monitor for completion.

Food eateries were excellent.
