About This AttractionSuggest an Edit
This striking castle is set in 160 acres with plenty of space for the family to run around and explore. Classic landscaped beauty side by side with wild and rugged woodland make for wonderful walks with plenty of room for private picnics among the rhododendrons or in the shade of the trees by the lake. Inside the castle has lots of treasures to be discovered from the darkness and gloom of the basement to the splendour of the Banqueting floor where Henry VIII and Elizabeth I once dined under an arch the like of which cannot be found outside a cathedral anywhere in Northern Europe. Explore the Minstrel’s Gallery where it’s still possible to run your fingers over the original decorative wall carvings, once the epitome of style, grace and great wealth, and displays on every floor tell some of the Castle’s fascinating history. Four fascinating floors linked by a spiral staircase take you back in time to another age. For families there is the Castle Quest to help you explore the castle and grounds. There are events held throughout the year so make sure that you check their website.
