This is the perfect place for a family to gaze at the stars! This public observatory is situated in a remote spot near the Kielder Forest and so gives the opportunity to see what lies in space under the darkest of skies. There are plenty of events especially for families, mostly held during the evening of course which promise loads of fun for everyone. The Family Astronomy evenings are very popular and worth attending to see the kids faces as they explore the universe. You are welcome to take your own equipment if you want to and receive lots of guidance and help on how to use it. This observatory site can be found in the third largest protected Dark Sky Park in the world and is considered to by the largest in Europe. it has the least amount of light pollution making it the perfect place to observe our wonderful night sky. There are plenty of family events held throughout the year especially with younger kids in mind. There are regular 'Family Astronomy' events and during the holidays 'Space Kids' sessions where kids will be able to learn something new and fascinating. Directions
The observatory is clearly signposted from the main “C200” road, do not turn off this main road until you see the observatory sign. For those of you with a Sat Nav the nearest postcode is NE48 1ER however this is for Kielder Village and following your Sat Nav to this destination may leave you lost – stay on the main road and look for the observatory signpost!
