About This AttractionSuggest an Edit

Muchelney Abbey is a truly fascinating historical site. Once upon a time it was a Benedictine house and the second oldest religious foundation in Somerset, until the dissolution of the monasteries saw its main buildings demolished by Henry VIII in 1538. Visitors can still see the foundations of the abbey, parts of the cloister walk and the thatched monks' lavatory - which is the only one of its kind in the UK. There is also an abbots' house from the 16th Century.
