A fantastic fun museum with extensive collections of anthropology, natural history and musical instruments- there is also a 16 acre garden to explore and enjoy. Different activities are organised and new exhibitions, concerts, festivals, shows and workshops. The Animal walk is home to alpacas, goats, sheep, golden pheasants and a rooster and you can walk through the centre of the inclosure to get up close to the animals. The kids will love a visit to the aquarium which showcases environments from around the globe with 15 different exhibits. The African Worlds exhibition brings together a selections of interesting sculptures and decorative arts. There is lots more to explore at this wonderful museum.

Parking is severely limited in local area, so we recommend using public transport to come to the Horniman. A pay-and-display car park is available locally behind Sainsbury’s (see map), and there are two pay-and-display car parks at Forest Hill station (one at the front, one at the back).Features

The Museum is open daily, from 10:00 - 17:30 (except Wednesdays when they are closed). The Butterfly House is open from 10:30 - 16:00 (last entry 15:30)

Directions
The Horniman is a five to ten minute walk from Forest Hill station and is signposted from the platform 1 exit. Please be aware this walk is uphill, although there are several bus services which stop at both the station and Museum (see above). Forest Hill is on the London Overground line between Highbury and Islington and West Croydon / Crystal Palace line which offers a high frequency service.

Our family has been to the Horniman many times, from the garden to the aquarium there is loads to do. Your day can either be completely free or you can pay to go into the attractions there, so you can go in any budget.

There was not a lot open due to a refit, what was open was good. 'Id say its for kids aged 3-10
