Surrounded by picturesque landscape, Highclere Castle is the home of the Earl & Countess of Carnarvon. The castle is nestled within 1,000 acres of parkland and is stood on the foundations of an earlier house. It is the set for the popular TV show Downton Abbey which has brought visitors from all over the country. Why not step even further back in time with the castles Egyptian Exhibition which is housed in the castle cellars. In 1922 the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and his colleague discovered the Tomb of the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun. To celebrate his achievements the current Earl & Countess have opened the exhibition to share with visitors.

How To Get There

Directions

Highclere Castle lies to the west of London, not far from the M4 and Newbury. Simply follow the brown tourist signs from the A34.
