For a bit of a different day out with the family take them here to see inside one of the huge slate mines and learn all about the slate industry past. Descend into The Deep mine and meet Sion the ghostly tour guide, hear all about how he was just 12 years old when he started working down the mines in 1844. Walk through the winding tunnels and down steps to reach the stunning caverns. One of the highlights for the children will be the mining railway which will take you back out of the mine. You can also do a Tramway tour as Dewi the little yellow train takes you on a journey nearly 1/2 mile into the mine. The guide will tell you all about the mines, the techniques, the harsh working conditions and lots more. There is a Mini Miners Trails to help the children explore the site and if they answer all the questions correctly they get a prize. If after the tours the children have energy left there is a children's play area in the Victorian Sweetshop and they can even paint their own slate coaster and take it home.
