About This AttractionSuggest an Edit
Portland Museum is housed in what was Avice's cottage in Thomas Hardy's book The Well-Beloved. The museum, which was opened in 1930, presents the history of Portland Stone, the Jurassic Coast, shipwrecks around Portland, and famous people linked with Portland. The adjoining Marie Stopes cottage houses the shop and a display of maritime history. Be amazed by the continually updated displays based on all our specialist themes; Stone, Sea & Shipwrecks, Local Archaeology and Famous Portland People.
