About This AttractionSuggest an Edit
The Roman fort at this site was built to house a garrison that guarded the River Tyne. In the museum you can see what has been discovered from the excavations of the site. There are displays of large items that have been found telling the story of the people who built the fort and the people who lived and died here many years ago. Parts of the fort have been reconstructed, you can discover what herbs and plants were used by the Romans for cooking and see one of the finest Roman tombstones in Britain. There are interactive exhibits where the kids can get hands-on digging for finds in the reconstructed excavation site and study what they have discovered.
