About This AttractionSuggest an Edit
Antony House is an early eighteenth century, and largely unaltered house. It was built in brick and Pentewan stone for Sir William Carew between 1711 and 1721. The stable block and outhouses remain from an earlier 17th-century building. Still the home of the Carew Pole family, it contains fine collections of paintings, furniture and textiles. Film-lovers will be interested to know that Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland was filmed in the gardens of Antony House.

We visited Antony House on Thursday 18th August. The staff were very friendly, helpful and full of fascinating facts.
You don't get to see all of the house but what you do see is really interesting if you appreciate architecture and period styling.
The grounds are just beautiful and enormous. If you're fit enough you can explore them all.
Sir Richard Carew-Pole also milled about outside and spoke to people. He was absolutely lovely and genuinely interested in finding out where people had travelled from.
If you're expecting entertainment then this is not for you but if you genuinely appreciate beautiful historic buildings and grounds then it's a lovely place to see.
